No Books Were Harmed Co.

Every book deserves a second story — and that’s exactly what Jo of No Books Were Harmed creates from her home studio in Moray, Scotland. Using only the edge of a teaspoon (yes, really!), she hand-folds the pages of reclaimed and vintage hardback books into stunning sculptural designs — never cutting, gluing, or wasting a single page.

What began in 2014 as a small passion for giving old books new life quickly grew into a full-time creative journey. After lending a few of her early creations to a friend’s café for display, Jo was surprised to find people eager to buy them. At first, she said “no, no, no” — she wasn’t a business, just someone folding books for fun. But when actress Tilda Swinton tried to purchase one and Jo still declined, she realized it might be time to say “yes.” The following week, No Books Were Harmed officially began — and Jo has never looked back.

Today, surrounded by thousands of rescued books, houseplants, and a few friendly studio companions, Jo turns once-forgotten stories into timeless works of art. Each piece is a testament to care, creativity, and sustainability — transforming something ordinary into something truly magical.

At FLYKUP, we’re inspired by Jo’s dedication to craftsmanship and her commitment to giving every book a beautiful second life. Her creations bring a touch of Scottish imagination to any home — best enjoyed with a cozy corner and a good fly cup.
