Our founder, Louise Jolley, grew up in Aberdeen, Scotland, where the Doric word “fly cup” is more than a phrase, it’s a way of life. In northeast Scotland, a fly cup means a quick, friendly cup of tea or coffee, often paired with a “fancy piece,” like a scone, shortbread, or slice of cake. But it’s not really about the drink. It’s about pausing for a moment, sharing good company, and making someone feel at home.
That simple tradition became the inspiration for FLYKUP.
When Louise moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia, she carried that tradition with her. She saw an opportunity to blend her Scottish heritage with her love for community by creating a boutique where people don’t just shop, they connect. That’s how FLYKUP was born.

Nestled in the heart of Aberdeen, Scotland, Jay’s Guest House holds a special place in the FLYKUP story. Once a charming bed and breakfast, it was also Louise’s childhood home, a place filled with warmth, laughter, good conversation, and the welcoming spirit that continues to inspire FLYKUP today.
